Gynaecologist and Urogynaecologist
About
I’m Dr Jan Adlam, a specialist gynaecologist and subspecialist urogynaecologist in Cape Town. My work centres on structured assessment, clear explanation, and treatment plans that make sense.
A significant part of my practice involves complex pelvic floor problems, recurrent symptoms, and patients who need a more careful review after previous treatment or surgery.
You should leave a consultation with a clear sense of what is happening, what matters most, and what comes next.

Why patients see me
Some concerns fit neatly into a single diagnosis. Others do not. Many patients arrive after symptoms have gone on too long, returned after treatment, or never quite fitted a simple explanation.
These cases benefit from time, precision, and continuity. The aim is to understand what is actually driving the symptoms, not to rush to a label or offer a once-off opinion.
How I work
Focused history-taking, targeted examination, and investigations only when they are likely to change management.
Plain-language explanation, shared decisions, and a plan that still makes sense after you leave the appointment.
Follow-through matters, especially when symptoms are persistent, treatment overlaps across different areas, or surgery is being considered.
Training and credentials
I obtained my medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 2012, completed internship training across Cape Town hospitals, and did community service at Khayelitsha District Hospital before continuing in gynaecology.
I entered specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2017 and completed both the MMed (O&G) at Stellenbosch University and the FCOG (SA) in 2022. During this period I completed a dissertation on severe early-onset pre-eclampsia, strengthening my grounding in evidence-based and high-risk care.
I completed the Cert (Urogynaecology) (SA) in 2024. I opened my practice at Life Bay View Hospital in Mossel Bay in early 2024 and now consult at Life Kingsbury Hospital in Cape Town.

Next step
Many problems overlap across different areas of care. The first step is working out what matters most and what kind of treatment is actually needed.
