PLANNING YOUR VISIT

Fees & medical aid

Clear information about consultation fees, separate charges and medical aid, so you can plan your care. If you are unsure what applies to your visit, Adel can help.

Consultation fees

Initial consultation

R2,450

Includes ultrasound.

For a first visit, a new problem, or a return more than 6 months after your last consultation.

Follow-up consultation

R1,150

Includes ultrasound when needed.

For ongoing care for the same condition within 6 months of your last consultation.

The need for an ultrasound is guided by your assessment. Procedures, devices and laboratory tests may carry separate charges, as explained below.

Payment & claiming

Please pay on the day by card or EFT. We do not accept cash.

You submit your consultation account to your medical aid yourself. Reimbursement depends on your plan and available benefits and may be less than the consultation fee.

TESTS, PROCEDURES & DEVICES

What is charged separately?

A consultation fee does not cover every test or treatment. Ask about the fee and possible medical aid cover before a procedure or device is provided.

Pap smear collection

There is no additional practice fee for collecting a Pap smear during your consultation. The laboratory charges separately for analysing the sample.

Procedures in the rooms

Colposcopy, biopsy and insertion of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) have separate procedure fees. Any laboratory analysis is also billed separately.

Pessary fittings & devices

Pessary fitting and the pessary device are billed separately from the consultation. Other devices, including an IUCD, also carry separate charges.

Cover for a rooms procedure or device depends on your scheme and plan. Pre-authorisation may be needed; Adel can help you check what to arrange.

HOSPITAL & DAY-CASE TREATMENT

Understand the accounts before your procedure.

For inpatient treatment, the practice submits Dr Adlam’s account to your medical aid. Any amount your scheme does not cover remains your responsibility.

Discovery Classic plans

Dr Adlam’s payment arrangement applies to all Discovery Classic plans and covers his inpatient professional fees only, subject to authorisation and your scheme’s requirements.

It does not extend to the hospital, anaesthetist or other providers’ fees. Adel can confirm how the arrangement applies to your planned treatment.

Other schemes & self-funded care

Ask Adel for an individual estimate. Medical aid payment may be lower than the practice fee, leaving a shortfall.

If you are paying privately, request an estimate for Dr Adlam’s fee and separate estimates from the facility and other providers involved.

One procedure may involve several accounts.

These may include Dr Adlam, the hospital or day facility, an anaesthetist, a surgical assistant or another specialist, and the laboratory. Each provider’s fees and medical aid arrangements need to be checked separately.

BEFORE A PLANNED PROCEDURE

Three steps to a clearer estimate.

  1. Agree the treatment plan

Your assessment guides what is needed and where it can be done. This allows Adel to prepare the practice’s estimate for the proposed procedure.

  2. Check benefits & authorisation

Adel helps with pre-authorisation. Confirm your plan’s benefits, approved facility or network, and any conditions with your medical aid.

  3. Clarify your own costs

Compare the estimates with what your scheme will pay, including separate provider accounts. Ask about possible shortfalls and any gap-cover benefit before proceeding.

Pre-authorisation is not a guarantee of full payment. An estimate reflects the planned treatment; if the treatment changes, the final account may differ.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Does gap cover pay every shortfall?

No. Gap cover depends on your policy, its limits, exclusions and waiting periods. Ask your gap-cover provider whether your planned treatment and any shortfall qualify; do not assume every charge will be covered.

Could my treatment qualify as a Prescribed Minimum Benefit?

Some conditions and treatments qualify for Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs). Eligibility depends on the diagnosis and treatment, and scheme processes and designated service provider rules can affect cover. Ask Adel and your medical aid to clarify your individual case before planned treatment.

What if I am unsure which consultation fee applies?

Contact Adel before your visit, particularly if you are returning with a new concern or are unsure when you last attended. The practice can confirm the applicable fee before your appointment.
